Chamber of Commerce’s Guith on Fracking Jobs
For the past few years, the debate over hydrofracking in New York has really boiled down to an argument over the amount of jobs that will be created, versus the risks to the environment. Both sides have tried to attack the other on these points. The industry says it is safe and environmental concerns are overblown. Opponents say the number of jobs created are being overblown by the industry. This week, the US Chamber of Commerce is out with new job numbers for the gas and oil industry – broken down by state. Here in New York, they estimate we could see up to 75 thousand jobs by 2020 and one point five billion in revenue. Chamber vice president for policy Chris Guith expalins.
