Gov. Andrew Cuomo has no plans to publicly weigh in on the merits of the new Senate coalition, with a spokesman saying in a statement that leadership decision is up to the Senate.

“This is an internal legislative matter,” said Cuomo spokesman Josh Vlasto. “The most important thing is to have a functional senate that passes the Governor’s progressive agenda to advance the State of New York. The Governor will withhold judgment until he sees how the Senate functions and acts on critical issues facing the state.”

Cuomo said previously last month when the idea of a coalition government was first floated that he cares more about whether lawmakers support a specific agenda, not their political back-and-forth over leadership posts.

If the coalition idea does indeed not turn out the way Senate leaders would like and descend into chaos, expect Cuomo to say a lot more.
