Cuomo At The White House
Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s meetings to secure recovery aid following Hurricane Sandy in Washington are well underway at this point of the afternoon, though he still has to meet with House Speaker John Boehner later today before he has a question-and-answer session with reporters.
A White House official tells NY1 that senior members of the Obama administration met with Cuomo on the aid package. The meeting included Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan and Chief of Staff Jacob Lew.
State Operations Director Howard Glaser, who is traveling with Cuomo, tweeted out a photo following the White House meeting showing Cuomo meeting with Sens. Mary Landrieu, Thad Cochran and Daniel Inouye, along with New York’s home Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.
According to DC bureau reporter Erin Billups, Cuomo stopped briefly to tell reporters that he was confident things were going well.
“So far, so good,” he said.
Cuomo is seeking more than $40 billion in federal aid for New York in order to rebuild after Hurricane Sandy. The aid package will likely be combined with requests made by New Jersey and Connecticut.
