Cuomo needs you more than you need him. He has high aspirations for further advancement, realistic or not, and in order to have any hope whatsoever of attaining those aspirations he needs to show progress and results. Without your cooperation, he can have neither. He can bully and bluster, but he cannot govern alone. He is only one leg of a three leg stool. Nothing more, nothing less.

So you have a choice. You can surrender to the bluster right here and now, and grovel for his “approval” or you can stand up like responsible elected officials and demand that he recognize your co-equal right to govern and cooperate with you, not dictate to you.

You have leverage over him. At the end of the day, he needs to run state-wide (or nation-wide if he ever gets the chance). You only need to run in your districts. He has the tougher row to hoe. Make him hoe it. Do not let him be both the executive and the legislative branch. Do your job. Work hard. Abide your principals (or if you don’t have any or have forgotten what they are, find some). And demand that he accept and respect your role in governing this state. If he says its “his way or the highway” then show him the highway and give him $13 for the toll over the bridge.

Capitulating to a bully is not governing. Do the job your constituents elected you to do or resign and let someone else do it. Everybody is watching. What are you going to do?
