Former LG Ravitch on Ongoing State Budget Issues
The State Budget Crisis Task Force has a new report out on New York’s fiscal status. And the report suggests that costs have been increasing much faster than revenues for a long time, with the state turning to accounting gimmicks and one-time revenue raisers to make up the difference. Former Lieutenant Governor and task force co-chair Richard Ravitch explains the problem, and why it could worsen as the federal government deals with its own budget problems.
