Grimm’s Legal Debt Grows To $678K
Rep. Michael Grimm’s legal fees keep racking up.
The Staten Island congressman who was the Election Day winner for another term against Democrat Mark Murphy, has incurred $677,966 in legal fees from the Washington, D.C.-based law firm Patton Boggs.
Grimm’s campaign reported back in June the debt for legal fees stood at $321,000.
Grimm ended the campaign season with $241,923 in cash on hand. The report filed covers Oct. 18 through Nov. 26.
The firm is representing Grimm in the ongoing FBI probe into his campaign fundraising activities, including the accusation that his 2010 campaign used straw donors and used an Israeli national to raise money from a synagogue in exchange for a green card.
A House ethics panel has said it voted to investigate Grimm in November, but decided to defer to the Justice Department’s ongoing investigation of the fundraising activities.
Grimm has denied having any role in illegal activities.
