(...Actress Ashley Judd was a huge supporter
of President Barack Obama during his reelection campaign. Now she's
reportedly exploring options to take down one of his biggest
congressional adversaries.

Politico reports
that Judd is looking into mounting a Democratic challenge to Senate
Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), citing discussions with sources
with knowledge of the situation. Dan Logsdon, chairman of the Kentucky
Democratic Party, told Politico that he'd heard the considerations were

Yes, raising taxes a notch or two for the top 2% is clean.

And these affluent citizens have good tax preparers who will find a building in the Caymens that will be good for opening a safe deposit box.

Ending loopholes, or reducing same, is a tough political process.

And since the white, billionaires that paid for the campaigns of most of the politicos, esp. the GOPers, they will make sure significant loopholes are maintained.

In order to reduce the $1 trillion in loopholes, one would have to bulldoze the K St. townhouses where the lobbyists and lawyers dwell.

And even if you do that, the loophole lobbyists will metastasize and keep moving, perhaps even
occupying Speaker Boehner's own office.

[This tells me you don't care about the revenues and care more about the optics for political reasons.]

Who cares with this tells you? Nobody. You act like the proverbial nun who wandered into a brothel.

Politics is all about optics. That's why the Republicans keep harping on entitlements -- implying that everyone who is accepting an entitlement is a crook. Kudos to Obama for fighting fire with fire.

Raising taxes by 2% on the rich is a simple concept with no wiggle room for the Republicans. "Overhauling" the tax code is a nebulous concept that will result in endless opportunities for Boehner to play games. We'll take a pass on Boehner's antics.

BTW, isn't time for you to go stir your cauldron again.

Why do you care if tax rates stay the same but revenue is generated from eliminating tax expenditures? Whether you raise the rates or keep them the same but eliminate tax expenditures, the same objective is achieved.

This tells me you don't care about the revenues and care more about the optics for political reasons.

(Republicans offered a counter-proposal to avoid the fiscal cliff. (AP))

**

It was sent in a letter to Barack.

“Answer me, oh, Mr. President

Just what sin have I been guilty of?

Tell me how I came to lose your support

Please answer me, Mr. President

I believed that our friendship was here to stay

Won’t you tell me where I’ve gone astray?

Please answer me, Mr. President

If you’re happier without me

I’ll try not to care

But if you still think about me

Please answer my prayer

You must know I’ve been true

Won’t you say that we can start anew?

In my sorrow now I turn to you

Please answer me, Mr. President”

Reconfiguration of Nat Cole’s Answer Me, My Love

*********

Actually, there was an Irish leprechaun tucked in the GOP counter-proposal.

Below is a draft of my own intended response to Speaker Boehner:

Dear Speaker Boehner:
I have perused your counter-offer.

And after collapsing to the floor in convulsive laughter (as Jack Benny
always did with George Burns’ jokes), I have regained my senses.

You do not even consider the possiblty of raising the income tax

rates on the top 2%.

I will send you data on the present scary income and wealth inequality; and what is means for the middle-class.

Your caucus’s position on the alleged job generating of the top 2% is trickle down writ large.

It’s the ol’ discredited horse and sparrow theory. If you feed the horse
enough oats, some will fall to the ground to feed the sparrows.

The summary of your counter-proposal is:

“..That framework aims to raise new revenue through an overhaul of the
tax code. It also calls for slicing $600 billion from federal health
programs, in part by increasing the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to
67, and saving $200 billion by applying a less generous measure of
inflation to all federal programs, including Social Security benefits,
according to GOP aides….”

What don’t you all understand when Barack and the Dems. say stay out of Social Security?

“a less generous measure of inflation” will mean immediate cuts to SS recepeients.

You want to do this, and not increase the tax levels on the wealthy!!

Have you all no decency?
You want to increase the age for those eligible for Medicare!
And what happens when an industrial worker needs to retire at 63, or 65?
You want to increase revenue by reducing, or eliminating, tax loopholes.

What loopholes?
You apparently left out which ones would be of interest.

And how would you do that without attacking the middle-class?

And how would you do that while leaving the K Street town houses intact,
occupied by well-paid lobbyists and lawyers who will fight any attempt
to eliminate the loophole barnacle that have accumulated on the tax
code.

After reviewing this silly proposal, I agree with Bill Maher when he
said the GOP and the Beach Boys have the same problem: they are both
losing their fan base.
