Michael Carey Discusses Justice Center Concerns
This week Governor Cuomo signed into law the Justice Center legislation aimed at improving care for the disabled in New York. The Justice Center will oversee six state agencies and contractors who take care of people with special needs. It will also have a complaint hotline, and the ability to investigate and prosecute instances of abuse. But critics have complained that the center will not be independent enough to be effective. Michael Carey, who lost his son Jonathan in 2007 while the boy was in state care, explains his concerns.
