State Of The State Back At The Plaza
The new tradition of holding the State of the State in the Empire State Plaza Convention Center will continue next month, with Gov. Andrew Cuomo planning to give the address there on Jan. 9 at 1:30 p.m., his office announced earlier today.
Governors had historically given the address in the Assembly chamber during a joint session of both houses of the Legislature.
But Cuomo changed that when he gave his first address, holding it in a venue that accommodates more people and allows him to use his patented Powerpoint presentation.
“The State of the State Address serves as an opportunity to speak directly to the people of the state of New York and lay out our plan as we continue to build on the successes of the past two years,” Cuomo said in a statement. “Once again, we are holding the State of the State in the Empire State Plaza Convention Center so that we can be as inclusive as possible, and give New Yorkers from across the state the chance to participate in this day. I look forward to joining the members of the Senate and Assembly, and the public on January 9 as we kick off the new legislative session and continue to make New York the Empire State once again.”
Next month’s event will be Cuomo’s third State of the State.
For tickets to the event, New Yorkers can register on the governor’s homepage.
