YNN/NY1/Marist Poll: Gauging Sandy’s Impact
A NY1/YNN/Marist College poll found most New York City residents expect to be hit with another storm on the level of Sandy and they want the government to be prepared.
“New Yorkers think the city needs to brace itself for another storm,” says Dr. Lee M.Miringoff, Director of The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion. “Next time, many thinkthe city will be ready.”
The poll found that 64 percent of residents believe it’s likely or very likely the city will be hit with another weather emergency on par with Sandy next year. That includes 21 percent say it’s very likely and 43 percent believe it is likely.
Eight percent say it’s not likely at all.
The poll also found that a majority of residents — 55 percent — believe the city should institute mandatory evacuations in the event of severe weather, while 42 percent believe it is up to the individual to leave the danger on their own.
