Amedore Leads Tkaczyk By 35 Votes
Republican George Amedore holds a 35 vote lead after eight ballots in Greene Countyresulted in a 5-3 advatnage for Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk in the 46th Senate District.
Amedore started the day with a 37-vote lead.
The count comes after a state Court of Appeals ruling denied Amedore’s appeal yesterday to not open 99 ballots in the final outstanding Senate race.
Ninety ballots are due to be opened in Ulster County, possibly as early as tomorrow at 10 a.m.. A ballot cast in Albany County will be opened tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., accorindg to Amedore’s campaign.
Democratic-rich Ulster County is where Tkaczyk did especially well on Election Day, though it’s unclear how many of these ballots will go her way or if voters even cast votes in down-ballot races this cycle. Tkaczyk will likely need to capture about two-thirds of those remaining ballots in order to be successful.
Amedore, now a former assemblyman, was certified the winner by an acting Montgomery County judge in the newly created Senate district — known pejoratively as the “63rd Senate seat” — but Democrats have pressed forward with nearly every available legal option to win the seat.
