Appreciate your response, rza.

(..First of all, if Roy wasn't on the ballot, Kathy gets 60% of the vote..)

It's true that Kathy would have gotten the majority of Roy's votes, it is not correct to assume Kathy's vote total would have been 60%+.

I do agree that there was really no victory path for Robin, unfortunately.

(..Second of all, who the hell are you to tell anyone what they need to
don't need? 10 bullets vs. 7 bullets is stupid and only stupid and makes
no policy sense...) Rza.

The Cuomo/NY new law tries to define an "assault weapon", and it now is illegal to have a semiautomatic that has more than ONE of the following :

detachable magazine

collapsible stock

pistol grip

bayonet lug

grenade launcher

flash suppressor thread to attach one.

I'm am far from an expert on these matters (I don't own a gun, don't want one, and don't hunt or target shoot), but the list above contain all military options that , on surface, would have no use for home protection, hunting, or target shooting.

Which of the above do you favor keeping legal?

(..Third of all, the right to bear arms is not about hunting. The fact you
think it is or imply that it is proves you are either grossly
misinformed on the amendment or you are simply lying about the issue..."Rza)

We are a gun-crazy, obsessed country; but no one is suggesting the confiscation of all guns.

The 2A was written following the Revolutionary war, when many early political leaders felt that the British, or other foreign troops, may return to conquer (as the Brits did leading to the 1812 war).

It was also an attempt to keep the new fed. government from overtly interfering with the southern slavery system.

The Constitution is a living, moving document that has added many amendments, and which also has an amending, and repealing, processs.

The 2A needs to brought into the modern 21st century.

(..Also, I'm not surprised you live in Saratoga Springs. I don't expect
liberals to live in communities they represent like Albany, Schenectady,
Troy, etc...Rza)

I don't understand your final comment.

I did live in Albany, and Altamont, for many years.

For many reasons, I moved to Saratoga.

I like the small town, New Englandish ambiance.

I like walking down Broadway...it reminds me of when I would walk in Manhattan, starting in the 50ies, and walking to the Village.

I'm now 150 yrs. young, although after drinking the Spa city's mineral water, I feel and look no older than 100.
That was in a previous life, when I could walk more than a mile. Now, a few feet is streching it.

Sen. Kathy Marchione wants to repeal and replace the bill. (Saratogian)

*******************

Where is Robin Andrews when we need her?

Sen. Marchione beat Robin by about 11% last Nov….not a shabby result for Robin.

Marchione has the “repeal and replace” petition on her website and Facebook.

She is a freshperson State Senator, a “backbencher”. At least during her
first term, she should be seen and seldom heard, except in the closed
GOP Senate caucus meetings.

Her call for a “repeal and replacement” of the new gun control law is
demogogy* at its’ worse.

The law will not be repealed or replaced. There may be some tweaking down the road, but not wholesale repeal.

What is it that she vehemently opposes?

The 10+ magazine…who needs more than 5-7 rounds?

If you can’t kill a varmit or deer in 1-2 shots, get out of the woods.

If you are a target shooter, then reload after 5-7 shots..no big deal.

A bushmaster or ar 15 has no business in hunting or target shooting.
It’s made to kill by the
military.

Marchoine is suggesting that the new gun control law and gay marriage are a threat to our country, constitution and culture.

To her, singing political kumbaya around the campfire will transpire when both are repealed.
I live in the great historical city of Saratoga Springs.

The entrepreneurial spirt is alive and smoking.

A new independent book store will come to Broadway by Summer.

A new multi-screen theatre will be built this year. All that will be needed are enough flicks that are to watch.

The mineral springs are flowing.

Broadway independent businesses are thriving.

I see no evidence that gay marriage, and later, the new gun law will impact negatively on all this.

Sen. Marchoine, Assemblymen Tony Jordan and Jim Tedisco should move on.

If they don’t like the secret, late night maneuverings of the State capitol, then get another job.

Don't mistake the facts for attacks, Rog. And I do not believe I have ever made a negative comment about the President's character. I disagree with some of his proposals, but I have no reason to believe he is personally corrupt or stupid. To the contrary. I only wish I could say the same about our own chief executive. In his case, I'm not guessing - I know.

Great strategy, Chinny. These kinds of attacks worked so well against President Obama (332 electoral votes). I'm sure they will be equally successful with Governor Cuomo.

[Several major casino companies said they probably won’t financially support an advocacy campaign for a public referendum on gambling in New York – a potential blow to Cuomo’s plan to expand casino gambling across the state.]

The "major casino companies" are licensed in jurisdictions which prohibit them from doing business with any criminal enterprise. If I were advising them, I would caution them against doing any business with the Cuomo administration. It's not a question of "if" - only a question of "when" criminal status is formally decreed upon Cuomo et al. The dumb one's always get caught sooner or later. And this group is D-U-M-B.

[The Glens Falls Post-Star on Cuomo’s use of a message of necessity for the SAFE Act: “This was not an emergency. But the governor’s abuse of power is quickly becoming one.”]

Perhaps there is hope for our democracy after all. At least in upstate NY.

More from the editorial:

"We’re hoping the hotly debated, highly volatile issue of gun rights, which has worked so many of our readers into a blind rage, will also make you mad as hell about how this governor does business and not want to take it anymore...Many of you are not happy about the new gun law passed in Albany, and if you watched the proceedings carefully, you should be even more angry over how it was done...Although New York has a constitutional amendment that requires a three-day public review of a new law, there was no such thing when it came to the new gun control measures...We hope you are paying attention, because this is becoming standard operating procedure in Albany...Gov. Cuomo may be getting things done, but we are opposed to how he is doing it...We said then, and we repeat it now, this is an obvious misuse of power...This is important stuff and the details are important...This was not an emergency. But the governor’s abuse of power is quickly becoming one."

Amen. Let's hope they remember when it comes time to make endorsements.

[Today is the deadline for teacher evaluation plans to be submitted and approved. A handful of districts – including the state’s largest, NYC – have yet to submit and risk losing millions in state education aid.]

[In a DN OpEd, NYC mayoral hopeful Adolfo Carrion calls the UFT an “embarrassment” and blames the union for the lack of a teacher evaluation deal with the Bloomberg administration.]

Say NO to teacher evaluations based on student growth.

Kids aren't tested to evaluate teachers. It's misuse of data. It's using data for purposes other than for which it was collected.

Add to the mix the fact that NYC children are part of a pilot program, the SLC, exposing kids to additional privacy risks. No reason in the world for vendors to have student data.

Lose $450 M or 1M children lose their privacy. The money is meaningless, privacy has value.

A Message to NY's Students' Lobbyist Governor: STOP EXPLOITING CHILDREN. YOU'RE OUT OF SYNC WITH NY & USA PARENTS. Parents across the USA are opting their children out of being exploited by Governors, US ED & greedy CCSS vendors.
