Mayors Against Illegal Guns Airing Ads In Towns With Mass Shootings
The pro-gun control group founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is airing a new TV ad in media markets where there have been mass shootings that stars a woman whose daughter was killed in the Arizona incident that critically wounded Rep. Gabby Giffords.
The group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, is airing the ad in Tuscon, Waco, Roanoke, Denver, Binghamton and Milwaukee.
The ad features Roxanna Green, whose 9-year-old daughter was shot and killed in the Tuscon shooting.
“How many more children must die before Washington does something to end our gun violence problem?” Bloomberg said in a statement. “We need political leaders to hear Roxanna loud and clear: we cannot wait any longer for you to do something about gun violence. Another child should not have to die.”
The mayor has promised to fund the renewed gun control effort with his vast personal fortune.
The spot also comes as Gov. Andrew Cuomo is expected to push for gun control legislation here in New York in his third State of the State addresss on Wednesday. Cuomo is also expected to make his own PR push for gun control in New York in order to move Senate Republicans on the issue.
