WFP Fetes ’19 Vote Landslide’
Sure, it’s not officially a landslide, nor is necessarily going to be a 19-vote margin when ballots ballots in Albany and Montgomery counties open their final ballots, but the Working Families Party is still framing it that way.
They’re calling it a “landslide” because Democrat Cecilia Tkaczyk was able to win, even if she wasn’t expected to.
As Liz pointed out earlier, Tkaczyk’s victory came in part with the help of liberal and progressive groups that specialize in GOTV efforts. Those groups backed Tkaczyk pushed hard for publicly financed campaigns, making it one of the main issues in the campaign.
In a fundraising appeal for candidate training, the WFP says it’s the support they provide to candidates in races like her’s that make the difference.
From their email to supporters this afternoon:
It’s a landslide because it proves that our strategy — to find strong progressive local leaders and help them run for higher office — works. It proves that by identifying great candidates like Cece and giving them the support and training they need for the campaign trail, we can put our state back on the right path.
The WFP asked supporters in an email for a $9 contribution (wouldn’t $19 have sounded better?) to help fund their “Candidate Pipeline” training program.
“Cece made the race about getting money out of politics and getting people back in. And, with the lessons she learned at our Candidate Pipeline training and support from too many allies to name, she ran one hell of a campaign. Her victory shows that a local leader, running with grassroots support and talking about issues people really care about, can win anywhere.”
