Firefighters Hose Cuomo’s Binding Arbitration Proposal
A full-page ad in today’s Times Union blasts Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposal in his budget to limit wage increases that arbitration panels can give to public workers if a local government is considered to be under “fiscal distress.”
The ad from the International Association of Fire Fighters, which includes the New York State Professional Fire Fighters Association, comes as the binding arbitration proposal earns some praise from the state’s big city mayors.
The ad claims the proposal would “radically” curtail binding arbitration rights for local government workers who are unionized.
Cuomo’s plan would cap the increases at 2 percent, which is the same target cap for property tax increases.
