“We’re making a lot of progress.”

“We’re very close to a deal, we’re moving in the right direction.”

“We are continuing to make progress.”

“Every time we come out of there, it gets closer.”

Those are just some of the nuggets of news reporters at the Capitol receive after staking out — sometimes for several hours — the four-men-in-a-room leaders meetings between Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Senate Co-Presidents Jeff Klein and Dean Skelos, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

It’s a scene that’s played out multiple times in the last several days between Capitol reporters and the legislative leaders as progress is reported — insisted upon — only to have no actual budget deal made.

Planet Albany has its own language and surely “progress” is being made behind closed doors. But following the blow-by-blow of the budget is starting to feel a lot like Groundhog Day as the world seems to reset and repeat on a daily basis.

Here’s a minute-long supercut put together by Capital Tonight video producer Bryan Terry of Skelos, Silver and Klein all reporting “progress” on the budget.
